R U OK Event Helps Normalize Mental Health Discussions

ConnectUs and Deja Brew have partnered for five years to bring Williston to the "RUOK" event. Deja Brew provides coffee and other drinks as a connection where customers can "buy a drink, give a drink." Customers can purchase their morning Cup of Joe or Sparkling Tea and receive A FREE drink to bring to a friend, family member, or co-worker to show that they are not alone, they matter, and as a great way to ask if they are ok.

Held in May, during mental health awareness month, it aims to create a conversation around mental health. The event allows us to normalize our mental health discussion and develop connections among individuals, helping to prompt the conversation and check in with the ones we care about.

Many local sponsors help spread Mental Health Awareness throughout our community; the following businesses have helped with the RUOK event for the past few years Chamley Pipeline, Messer Dental, Fisher Orthodontics, Everson-Coughlin Funeral Home, H&H Electric, & Triangle Electric, and always supportive of Williston.

ConnectUs Therapy recently started the ConnectUs Foundation to meaningfully advocate for the community's mental health and substance use treatment needs. The Foundation currently has three goals:

  • To continue to spread awareness of mental health through advocacy events.
  • To raise funds to help overcome barriers that prevent people from gaining access to care or creating opportunities for personal advancement and success.
  • To raise funds to purchase or build a larger clinic to host more providers and expand services to include medication-assisted therapy for substance use disorders.

Deja Brew was started by the Dynamic Mother and Daughter Duo of Jody and Addison Cymbaluk and currently has two locations to serve you! The RU OK event occurs at their downtown location, 512 Main Street, starting at 7 am this Friday, May 19th, 2023.
