State Champions!

The Williston Wonderettes recently competed at the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill State Competition, which spans two days of competition for Class A, Class B, and Junior High in 4 categories: High Kick, Pom, Jazz, and Hip Hop.

The Varsity Wonderettes came away with an armload of trophies, and the State's highest honor in Pom and Jazz, AND are the 4th time reigning Hip Hop State Champions! The Junior Varsity team also brought home hardware with placement in the top 3 of each category: 2nd place in Hip Hop and Jazz, and 3rd place in Pom!

With girls ranging from 7th to 12th grade on Junior Varsity and Varsity, this year was rebuilding after losing 6 Seniors last year. This makes their fantastic showing at State even more remarkable! I chatted with Coach Tia Hennix, and she notes, "Having a strong work ethic, mental attitude and working hard does pay off. Being a team, every one has to do their part."

Hennix was voted this year's Coach of the Year and received her 10-Year Service award with the NDADD: "It's an honor because another coach must nominate and it's voted on by my peers." Hennix has been the driving force behind the Wonderettes for over a decade and is hopeful the school will be more active in it, with her remaining the Head Coach. The Wobderettes are currently not an official school organization, but there is hope they will be soon!
